Report out from the Research Information Network/JISC on Data Centres: their use, value and impact. Interesting, but a relatively limited view - little on international context or potential, or use internationally. Would also be interesting to think about career incentives for scientists to contribute and curate, and the potential impacts of RCUK/EPSRC emerging requirements for data preservation and access.
Graham has pointed to a new report from the UK Research Information Network, the UK HE/library policy unit: an analysis with considerable evidence of the way in which e-journals are used - what works, what does not, and the impacts.
Article in Nature on biocuration - curation of databases dealing with protein structures and similar initiatives. Two elements of interest - first the level of effort involved in creating the resource, and second the need for previous lab experience for the curators. More.../
